FAQ

DO YOU HAVE ANY CATS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE?

If we have no cats listed on our available for adoption page, then that means we currently have no cats in our care that are looking for new homes. This could be because they aren't ready yet, or it could be that we have no cats currently in care (which is actually a good thing from our perspective)! Please check back later or follow our social media for regular updates on cats that come into our care.

DO YOU HAVE A WAITLIST?

We do not keep a waitlist. When we have a cat that is ready for adoption we will open applications for the specific cat and assess them based on the needs of that particular cat.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION PROCESS?

When a cat is ready for adoption we will put a little bio up on our 'Available for Adoption' page, which includes a link to our adoption application. We will post to our social media to say applications are open and we will also list the cat on the petrescue website. We will leave applications open for a minimum of 2 weeks, after which we will assess the applications based on the needs of the cat. We will then shortlist the most suitable applications and invite the top candidates for meet and greets. After the meet and greet we will contact the successful applicant and organise the adoption with a trial period to make sure everything works out.

WHAT ARE YOUR ADOPTION FEES?

We currently ask a standard adoption fee of $1500 for our cats (unless otherwise specified). For some cats we may ask a lower adoption fee, this could be due to age or medical conditions etc. If we do ever have kittens in our care the adoption fee will usually be slightly higher.

Adoption fees help us to recoup some costs and allow us to continue to rescue and rehabilitate sphynx cats in need, they are our main source of income (nearly everything else comes out of our own pockets!). We spend an average of $3000 on each cat that comes into our care, so tend to operate at a loss.

HOW OFTEN DO CATS BECOME AVAILABLE?

It can be quite unpredictable, as thankfully sphynx cats tend to be well loved and cared for and don't often find themselves needing new homes. At this stage we have been getting a surrender once every few months, but this can always change.

I WANT TO ADOPT A KITTEN, CAN I HAVE ONE?

We are a rescue, so we only assist with rehoming sphynx cats in need - it would be incredibly rare to have a kitten surrendered to us. If you are specifically after a kitten you would need to look into breeders, but please make sure you research thoroughly and ensure they are reputable.
